Spring is Coming

Spring is Coming

Hello Folks,

The new year is here! (Spring is beginning) and I'm certainly ready to resurface. Truth be told, I've gone offline during the final months of Winter for some restorative time to myself and my studio. I personally find life all too much (about every 3 weeks) and crash out, unable to do much at all. Though since coming off my phone considerably, I have been reading books, sketching and weaving instead. It has helped me breathe again and I've had lots of energy for sorting out the studio space for the year ahead.

In particular, I have been building my new loom. It is a computerised loom which means that the shafts (used for lifting threads to make a pattern) are controlled by a black box connected to a retro looking programme on my laptop. Though, in order to get the weaving running smoothing, entails connecting sensors, pulleys and solenoids together to form a fluid lifting motion(!) Honestly, my mind has been blown and more times than I can count I have walked away almost in tears. Now, the new loom is almost running successfully. Big thanks to those weaver friends who have helped me so much. And before long, I will be putting on the first warp (the up and down threads you weave into) and weaving more cloth than ever before..

This year is going to be an exciting year of playing and experimenting with weave! There will be exciting pieces coming onto the website, as well as a deeper dive into the studio and my special interests into weave history. I am also now offering the Countermarch loom for those who wish to try out weaving for themselves. This shall be on a pay-as-you-can basis with an encouraging invitation to artists on benefits or jobseekers' to try for free.

I welcome visitors and collaborators to the studio.
